"Borrowing its title from Milan Kundera’s novel, La Vie est Ailleurs (or Life is Elsewhere) embodies a duality of meaning. Optimistically, the phrase encourages travel as a means to ceaselessly explore new ways of life. On the other hand, it assumes a stagnant “elsewhere” will merely repeat familiar disappointment—echoing Kundera’s own disillusionment with the 1968 student uprising in Paris after his escape from Prague.

I came across Kundera’s book years ago, and its expression instilled in me an urge to travel. Finding refuge in not belonging offered a momentary escape from the mundanity and confusion of everyday life—a union of inverses reminiscent of la vie est ailleurs. These journeys are captured here on 35mm film.

生活在別處是一本關於空間探索的攝影集。 《生活在別處》來源於米蘭·昆德拉1969年小說的名稱，這本講述青年尋找與發現自我的小說啟發了我對於‘別處’的好奇。當然，這句詩的含義是雙面的，既可以理解為對外面世界的好奇，不僅有景色更有另一種生活方式可以探討。而相反，遠方的生活也可以負面地理解為，哪裡生活最終都一樣，好比昆德拉對巴黎1968年的失望。 我通過台灣作家蔣勳發現了昆德拉的作品，從此種下了出去探險的種子，不僅是看風景，更是相信世上有多種生活的節奏，不必拘限於常規的步調。"
